Colophon

Hi there. I am Mr. Brannan. Welcome to my blog.

I am a 30-something lifetime Midwesterner currently residing in the Indianapolis area. I am a full-time parent of three and freelance sportswriter. I’ve been blogging since 2003 and this is the fourth stop on my travels through the Internet. You’ll find my interests vary, but most of the posts will relate to my children/family, sports, music, books, and current events. These change depending on my mood and obsessions of the moment.

Publishing

I currently run the site on the latest version of WordPress, hosted by Bluehost. In the past I’ve used Blogger, TypePad, and WordPress’ hosted service. Almost all posts are published using the magnificent MarsEdit. The theme is a heavily customized version of the default Twenty 10 theme. Given how much I like to tweak, the site may look very different from visit-to-visit. Fonts are served up by Typekit.

Gear

While I do not evangelize as much as I once did, I am a proud and loyal Macintosh user. My current Mac is a 15″ MacBook Pro, early 2008 version, with a matte screen. I also sport a shiny iPhone 3GS that I may post from on occasion. My Mac life has included a G3 Blueberry iMac, Quicksilver PowerMac, eMac, G4 PowerBook, Mac Mini, and MacBook. I have a Mac SE/30 sitting on my bookshelf for nostalgic value. Yes, I have a problem.

Software

The following software is essential to my daily workflow

MarsEdit As noted above, it is my desktop blogging software of choice.

WriteRoom As a professional writer, I feel obligated to try every writing application – both text editors and word processors – available for the Mac. This is the one I’m currently using most. A simple, elegant application that allows you to focus on putting words into a document.

NetNewsWire The finest RSS reader available for the Mac keeps me loaded with things to read.

Yojimbo Where I stash things I need to find later.

LaunchBar Making everything about the Mac easier.

1Password Dead simple management of passwords and other secure data.

Dropbox Online storage and file sharing.

iTunes Always running.

Safari I’ve tried the others, but I can’t find one that is as fast, beautiful, and integrated into the OS as Safari.

SuperDuper A must-have app that makes backing up data a snap.
