I rarely read Bill Simmons anymore, which is weird because there was a time when I wasted entire work days reading his columns. I stopped mostly because ESPN made it such a hassle to find his most current stuff.* Every now-and-then I’ll read one of his columns after someone sends me a link, but it’s been 3-4 years since I was a regular reader.
* Is there a worse major website on the Internets than ESPN? Every time the “redesign” it, they manage to make it more cluttered and ad-laden. I probably go to ESPN.com less than 20 times a year now.
I am kind of excited about his NBA book, though. I’ve already hit the preorder button on Amazon and can’t wait to wade into 700+ pages of him writing about his favorite subject.
Here’s an interview with Simmons that appeared on The New Yorkers’ website.
Five decades ago, when Russell wanted to get his point across about something that was important to him, he would write a first-person account in Sports Illustrated. Today, Shaq gets his point across in a 140-character Twitter post. I don’t think this is progress.
